What is here, and what is not

Pup Census publishes pet license records released by city governments as open data. These records contain the animal’s name, breed, year of birth, sex and the owner’s ZIP code. They do not contain owner names, addresses, telephone numbers or email addresses, and we do not publish license numbers. We do not combine these records with any other source to identify individuals.

If you believe a record here identifies you, write to [email protected] and we will remove it. You do not have to explain why.

What this site collects about you

Aggregate page view counts, measured with Google Analytics configured so that no cookies are set and no identifier is stored on your device. That means we can see how many people read a page and roughly where in the world they were, and we cannot see who you are or follow you to another site. If you give us an email address, it goes to SendFox, the service that sends the mail, and is used to tell you when a new city is added and for nothing else. The signup form posts to this site rather than to SendFox, so nothing loads from them in your browser and they learn nothing about you unless you actually subscribe. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and leaving takes one click.

Advertising

There is none. Pup Census carries no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid links, and the only outbound link on the site goes to the source records at NYC Open Data. If that ever changes, the commercial relationship will be labelled on the page where the link appears, not buried here, and this paragraph will be rewritten before anything goes live.
